- The Matrix 6H258-17 is high-performance, high-capacity Fast Ethernet-over-fiber (100Base-FX) module for the Matrix E6 (formerly SmartSwitch 6000) and Matrix E7 chassis. This switching module provide high port densities with 16 100Base-FX ports each (MMF or SMF) as well as a flexible uplink slot for connectivity to high-speed LAN or WAN backbones. The MT-RJ connector type/standard, designed to make fiber optics easier and more affordable to deploy throughout the enterprise, is fully supported, making this the industry's most cost-effective 100Base-FX switching solution. With the Matrix 6H258-17, the ability to deliver fiber-to-the-desktop is a viable option, increasing the capacity for multimedia and other high-bandwidth traffic. Enterasys' fiber solutions also allow customers to ensure data security, achieve greater cabling distances and provide a seamless migration path to future networking technologies.
